AMSAF Volunteers focus on Leading the Organization
AMSAF volunteers are dedicated to leading the organization with passion and commitment. These individuals bring diverse skills and experiences to the table, driving AMSAF’s mission to promote motorcycle safety and awareness. Volunteers take on key leadership roles, from organizing educational programs and safety campaigns to securing funding and fostering community partnerships. Their efforts ensure that AMSAF remains a powerful advocate for motorcyclists and motorists alike, continuously working to reduce accidents and save lives. Through their leadership, AMSAF makes a lasting impact on the community, paving the way for safer roads in Arizona.
AMSAF Hosts, Sponsors, and Participates in Various Events Around Arizona
AMSAF hosts numerous events throughout Arizona to promote vehicle safety and awareness. These events include educational workshops, defensive riding courses, and community outreach programs aimed at reducing vehicle related injuries and fatalities. By organizing these events, AMSAF provides valuable training opportunities for riders, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to ride safely and defensively.
In addition to hosting its own events, AMSAF actively sponsors and supports various motorcycle and four-wheel vehicle safety and community events across the state. This includes partnering with local organizations, businesses, and government agencies to co-host safety fairs, helmet scholarship programs, and other safety-based events. Through sponsorship, AMSAF ensures that these events have the resources needed to be successful, furthering their mission of promoting road safety and awareness among both motorcyclists and motorists.
AMSAF also participates in a wide range of events organized by other groups to spread their message of vehicle safety. This involvement includes setting up informational booths at local fairs, festivals, and expos, where they provide educational materials, safety gear demonstrations, and interactive activities. By participating in these events, AMSAF reaches a broader audience, engaging with the community and building strategic alliances to enhance vehicle safety efforts throughout Arizona.
Share the Road & Riding for the Long Haul
AMSAF, one of Arizona’s key voices with regard to driver, rider and overall vehicular safety, continues to expand its reach and scope to bring more businesses into the safety fold, and to share the statistics that drive that need.
“AMSAF continues to meet the safety awareness concerns of donors and sponsors as we spread our wings to focus even more on all types of traffic, motorcycle, driver, bicyclists, and pedestrians, among others,” says AMSAF’s executive director Mick Degn.
Distracted driving, crashes, and fatalities continue to be a critical issue in the State of Arizona. “AMSAF has been growing and expanding its look, and its reach, to work closer with a myriad of businesses, the public, and organizations of all kinds,” adds Degn. “Along with some very bad driving habits, thousands of people are moving to our state every month, which is making our roadways extremely busy, crowded, and dangerous. We must work together, pay attention to our surroundings and make sure we are following the rules of the road at all times.”
Some of the reasons why AMSAF continues to grow its services:
- nearly one-third of multiple vehicle crashes with motorcycles are read-end collisions
- on average there are over 100,000 crashes in Arizona and about 1,000 are fatal
- almost 60% of motorcycle crashes are the fault of another vehicle
- there are about 1,000 bicycle crashes and the majority of those involve injuries
- the largest number of people killed and injured in crashes are males between the ages of 25-44
- most motorcycle crashes occur during daylight hours
- over 110,000 crashes are the result of road rage
- almost 2,000 pedestrian crashes result with about 300 individuals killed
Degn says the key to getting people involved in safety is awareness and education. All businesses in Arizona are encouraged to become part of making safety number one for their employees, customers and the motoring public. Whenever there is an accident, there are more people than the individuals directly affected. Police, medical professionals, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and legal experts all play crucial roles in what happens after an accident.
AMSAF is the first and only program of its kind in the United States.
The non-profit organization has helped thousands of motorcyclists purchase DOT-approved full face or modular helmets; provided over 8,000 scholarships to Arizona riders; distributed over $2,000,000 in grants for motorcycle safety; embraces Share the Road, which is centered on reducing distracted driving and riding in all forms in Arizona; and trained over 150 individuals through its new Accident Scene Management program. Its mission is to promote safety and awareness and reduce crashes and fatalities.
